Recent Work
Accelerating Progress on Social Determinants of Health
Chronic diseases are a leading cause of illness and death in Lewis and Clark County, MT. WE Public Health partnered with woman-owned consulting group, Yarrow, LLC, the Lewis and Clark County Department of Health, county residents, and partners to develop a Social Determinants of Health Accelerator Plan. The plan lays out a path to create culturally responsive policies, systems, and environments that prioritize health equity as a critical factor in the prevention and management of chronic disease.

Advocating for Maternal Mental Health
The U.S maternal care system fails to protect the mental health of women, especially women facing the burden of structural racism. WE Public Health supported the Reilly Group, Inc. and Postpartum Support International to build a coalition of national and state advocates to advance policy and legislation to increase coverage for prevention and care, expand and diversify the workforce, support doulas and community health workers, and improve mental health outcomes.

Helping Mobile Health Providers Engage with Community
Mobile health in the U.S. is rapidly expanding to provide equitable, community-centered, and accessible healthcare. WE Public Health developed a new resource for Mobile Healthcare Associations' 1,000+ members. Supporting Mobile Healthcare: A Toolkit to Improve Community Outreach and Engagement covers practical concepts, case studies, and templates to help mobile health providers build respectful relationships with community members, appreciate community needs, assets, values, and culture, and co-create equitable outreach programs.

Cultivating a Thriving Workforce
WE developed a workforce development plan for the Jefferson County Department of Health (CO) to help them rebuild a thriving workforce after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Creating a New Local Health Department
In November 2022, La Plata and Archuleta Boards of County Commissioners approved a resolution to dissolve the existing 2-county public health district in Southern Colorado. La Plata County engaged Otowi Group, LLC, and WE Public Health to lead a landscape analysis to inform the creation of a new single-county health department. The analysis included interviews, a review of health departments serving comparable populations, a synthesis of relevant legal requirements for the delivery of public health services, governance models, staff requirements, and financial forecasting. We delivered a report with recommendations, a timeline, staffing structure, and key tasks and presented it to the Board of County Commissioners and the newly-formed transitional Board of Health. In partnership with Otowi Group, WE provided the County with consulting support to prepare for and launch the new department in January 2024.
